Provides an Opportunity for Members to Exhibit and Curate
With the advent of a permanent home for the Arroyo Arts Collective, there are exciting opportunities for members to exhibit in the Acorn Gallery. Anyone who is a member may submit a proposal to curate an exhibition in the new Acorn Gallery:
The curator will submit a one page proposal with the concept of the exhibit, its title, a short statement and the names of the artists to be included with some documentation (photos, slides) of their work. We suggest a minimum of 3 artists be included in the show to involve more member artists.
Exhibits will run for 6 weeks, and the curator will assume overall responsibility for the exhibition. After a proposal is accepted by the curatorial committee, these duties include receiving and hanging work, making labels or a price list, arranging an opening reception for the artists, handling publicity, taking down and returning work to artists and restoring the walls for the next exhibit. Optionally, curator and artists may print a 23 cent postcard to announce the show at their expense.
The Arroyo Arts Collective will announce the exhibition in the newsletter, provide agreement forms for participating artists, supply hanging materials, and budget for reception refreshments. If the artists decide on a postcard, the Collective will mail the card to our membership list (approximately 250).
Since the Collective has just obtained the space, there are some details to be worked out regarding exhibitions. We would like a small percentage of sales to go to the AAC and an additional small percentage to go to the curator, with the majority going to participating artists. We are uncertain of hours and staffing of the space. We are hoping to schedule shows to coincide with openings in the Avenue 50 Studio.
The Collective welcomes input from members who would like to participate in making the Acorn Gallery a showcase for the talents of Arroyo Arts Collective artists. Please call 323-221-3225 to volunteer.
